Feb GR: $25 for 25, Mississauga Food Bank
Hi Friends!
This month we’re changing up our Grocery Run (GR) to help with the Mississauga Food Bank’s $25 for 25 campaign, in honour of their 25th anniversary!
- With a donation of $25, The Mississauga Food Bank can distribute $210.25 worth of donated food – that’s enough to feed a family of 5 for their once monthly visit that provides 7-10 days worth of food!
- With a financial donation of $250, The Mississauga Food Bank can distribute $2102.50 worth of donated food – that’s 841 pounds of food to breakfast programs that allows them to feed kids in need before they head off to school.
- With a financial donation of $2500, The Mississauga Food Bank can distribute $21,025 worth of donated food – that’s 8410 pounds of food to be supplied to one of our member agency food banks – enough to feed 336 people!
So instead of our usual GR this Saturday, we’re going to do a group donation instead, for their campaign.
If you are able to contribute to this month’s event – please let me know by this Sat. Feb 26th (tomorrow!). We’re encouraging everyone to donate at least $25 each, this month, in support of the food bank.
After I’ve collected everyone’s pledges, I will make one group donation.
love+prayers,
Cecilia
First Grocery Run of 2011!
Thanks for supporting our first GR of the year!
New and old supporters contributed to this month’s GR. We got $185 worth of goodies today! And with incredible sales at the store today, our cart filled up fast with a total of 109 items! We had 5 boxes piled with baby food, canned veggies and meat, beans, pasta, sauce, rice, soup, cereal, juice, cookies, crackers, and more.
Remember to check out our monthly dates for GR, and spread the word to help our local food banks.

Advanced knitters can also make vests, hats, scarves for KAS or another organization. Beginners – get ready to purl in our next session!
It has been delightful collecting all your various knitted squares for AIDS orphans in South Africa! Even some of our beginner knitters have contributed their first squares! Keep up the amazing work, and just look for either Ming or Victoria to hand in your squares if you haven’t already.
Bring your friends and family along on April 16th! See you then!

the knitting club premieres!
We are still alive and kickin’ at morethangoodintentions, still experimenting with various ideas to become more active members of our local and global community.
Our newest venture is the Knitting Club, where we plan to learn knitting skills from experienced knitter and allow the experienced ones to use their skills and donations of time and yarn to benefit those in our community and around the world.
The first Knitting Club meeting will take place this Saturday, March 6th from 1-3pm at Mississauga Chinese Baptist Church, room 802. Please bring your own knitting needles and yarn! If you have no idea what needles to get and what yarn to by… come and learn about it from one of our experienced knitters!
Crochet-ers is also most welcome!
Some of the charities you can donate your knit and/or crochet projects to (please check each site for specific donation requirements):
- Angel Hugs – a Mississauga-based charity that donates to Credit Valley Hospital, local women’s and family shelters, The Open Door, and other organizations
- Knit-A-Square – great for beginner knitters! Send knitted and crocheted squares to South Africa and these will be turned into warm blankets given to AIDS orphans
- StreetKnit Project – items are distributed to the homeless living in Toronto
If you have other organizations to suggest, please don’t hesitate to tell us in the comments!
Also, if all goes well, the Knitting Club may expand to include other crafts that can be given to charity. Stay tuned!
Pass on the word and see you on Saturday!
PS: Grocery runs are still alive and well and happening at the end of every month! Check the above tab for more information.
